Farmhouse at Dhaulas
DALANWALA, DEHRADUN
The concept of a single-level home seemed appropriate given that the site afforded us the luxury of space. So did the use of vernacular sloping roofs with shingles; a low structure with an expanse of shingle roofing would be in harmony with the site location, with a Sal forest all around it.
Natural stone has been used to clad the walls with a break given by white plaster fenestration. High sloping roofs are interspersed with skylights to create a natural flow of light in the farmhouse. A deep verandah faces the lawn and the forest with a connecting octagonal sit–out space for enjoying the outdoors.
